Mauritius has confirmed that it has not received any proposal from President Donald Trump’s administration regarding the purchase of the Chagos Islands.

This follows a report by the Telegraph newspaper claiming that the White House was evaluating a plan to buy the islands from Mauritius.

In a statement, the Mauritius government said it had taken note of the publication by the Telegraph. However, it stated that it has neither received any formal proposal nor held any communication with the United States, directly or indirectly, concerning the purchase of Diego Garcia and the Chagos Islands.

“Mauritius’ position remains unchanged. Our sovereignty over the Chagos Islands is not negotiable,” the government said.

The Telegraph reported on Sunday that the proposed purchase had been discussed at the White House.

The development comes after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer handed over control of the Indian Ocean islands to Mauritius. Is Trumph up for something fishy?
