Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has warned the opposition, urging them to prepare for a tough defeat in next year’s general election.

Prof. Kindiki said the opposition should brace themselves for a fierce political contest, emphasizing that it will not be easy for them to win.

“President William Ruto will serve two terms, whether the opposition likes it or not,” said the Deputy President.

He was speaking in Kagumo, Kirinyaga County, while inspecting the construction of the Kagumo–Kiamaina road.

Accompanied by Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari, the Deputy President urged opposition leaders to stop boasting that they would win by a landslide.

“It is too early to start bragging — we will defeat them decisively,” he added.

The former Tharaka-Nithi senator said President Ruto and his allies are ready to face the opposition, which he accused of focusing on insults and propaganda instead of development.

“We are initiating development projects for the benefit of Kenyans, but when the political season comes, we will show that we are formidable,” he added.

He urged Mt. Kenya residents not to be misled by opposition leaders trying to persuade them to leave the government.

“We elected this government and we should remain in it to benefit from its resources,” he said.

Mr. Kindiki also criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of disrespecting elected women leaders in the Mt. Kenya region.

“Gachagua does not respect elected women leaders and should be rejected.”

Governor Waiguru supported the remarks, saying Mt. Kenya residents will remain aligned with the government.

“The government has the resources to build roads and markets; we cannot leave it,” she said.

“We will not join the opposition because it has nothing to offer. Kindiki and I are united in ensuring we remain in top leadership for the benefit of our people,” she added.

The two leaders pledged to work together to persuade Mt. Kenya residents to support President Ruto in his bid for re-election.
