The political contest for nearly two million votes in the Ukambani region has intensified after President William Ruto expanded his list of allies in the region as he gears up for the 2027 General Election.
During a meeting at State House on Friday, President Ruto introduced former Head of Presidential Delivery Unit and Chief of Staff, Nzioka Waita, and former Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) Board Chairperson, Prof. Phillip Kaloki, as among the leaders expected to strengthen the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in Ukambani.
The President also unveiled Prof. Kaloki as the UDA’s gubernatorial candidate for Makueni County, while the head of the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP), Dr. Andrew Mulwa, was named as the party’s preferred candidate for the Senate seat.
“We will field candidates for every elective position across the country,” President Ruto said.
He urged residents of the Ukambani region to support his leadership in next year’s elections.
