Journalists from Nation Media Group (NMG) who were covering protests over high fuel prices along Thika Road on Monday, May 18, 2026, were attacked and robbed by suspected thugs.

The vehicle carrying the journalists was surrounded by the attackers, who then robbed them.

The assailants had blocked the road with stones and were demanding money before allowing vehicles to pass.

Those attacked included journalists from NTV Kenya and the Daily Nation, who were returning to Nation Centre after covering demonstrations and a matatu operators’ strike in the towns of Ruiru and Juja.

Those inside the vehicle were NTV reporter Labaan Shabaan, NTV cameraman Luis Ngari, Daily Nation reporter Kevin Cheruiyot, photographer Evans Habil, and their driver Bernard Magara.

The journalists reported the robbery at Gatongora Police Station. At the time, the situation in the area remained tense, with protesters continuing to block roads. Will the government stop this or they will ignore the case.
