Residents of Masindi Municipality were left in shock after a man who had been declared dead returned alive just hours after a body believed to be his had been buried.

According to the Daily Monitor, Godwin Baguma, a resident of Kijana in Kijura Central Division, Uganda, had been reported missing for several weeks, raising concern among family members and neighbors.

The family said Baguma, who is believed to have a mental health condition, disappeared without informing anyone, prompting an intensive search.

The situation took a dramatic turn over the weekend when the family received information that police had recovered a decomposed body from a sugarcane plantation in Kisanja on Friday.

The body was taken to the mortuary at Masindi Hospital, where announcements were made for people with missing relatives to help identify it. Baguma’s father, Yakobo Kamuturaki, said that after receiving the news on Sunday, he sent his sons to the mortuary to confirm whether the body was that of their missing relative. After viewing the remains, they returned and confirmed it was Baguma.
