The death of a deputy principal from Bungoma County is being treated as a suspected murder case after he collapsed in a hotel room shortly after checking in with a woman following an evening out in Webuye town.

Caleb Wekesa Nakhisa, the deputy principal of St. Cecilia Misikhu Girls Secondary School in Webuye Constituency, died in the early hours of Saturday, May 24, 2026, under circumstances that police have termed suspicious.

According to a police report filed at Webuye Police Station under OB No. 02/24/05/2026 at 3:00 a.m., Nakhisa had spent the evening in the company of a 28-year-old woman whom investigators are questioning as part of the ongoing probe.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the two met at SK Club at around 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, where they reportedly shared drinks with friends. Later, they proceeded to Thumbs Club and continued socializing before leaving together at approximately 11:00 p.m.

The pair then checked into Satellite Hotel in Webuye, where they intended to spend the night. However, events took a tragic turn barely an hour later.

Police reports indicate that at around 12:20 a.m., Nakhisa suddenly began feeling unwell while inside the hotel room. The woman reportedly alerted hotel management, who rushed to the room and found the deputy principal foaming at the mouth and in critical condition.

Hotel staff, assisted by the woman, immediately rushed him to Calvary Hospital in Webuye. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Webuye Sub-County Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately, medical personnel pronounced him dead about ten minutes after his arrival.

Following the incident, officers from Matulo Police Post and detectives attached to the Sub-County Criminal Investigations Office (SCCIO) visited both the hotel and hospital to gather evidence and document the scene. Investigators have since launched a comprehensive inquiry to establish the exact cause of death and determine whether foul play was involved.

As part of the investigations, the 28-year-old woman was taken into police custody to assist detectives with inquiries. Authorities have emphasized that her detention is intended to aid investigations and does not imply guilt.

The sudden death of the respected educator has shocked colleagues, students, and residents of Webuye, with many awaiting the outcome of forensic examinations and police investigations that are expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding his final hours.

Police have urged the public to remain patient and avoid speculation as detectives continue gathering evidence to establish what led to Nakhisa’s death. We are following up every move to keep you upto date.
