U.S. President Donald Trump said he will not allow Iran to “betray” or threaten the United States, stressing that Washington is taking a firm stance in the ongoing dispute.

Speaking at the White House during a ceremony to sign an executive order, Trump said there are “very good talks underway” between the United States and Iran. However, he accused Iran of what he described as long-term “trickery,” claiming it has acted that way for about 47 years.

Trump added that Iranian leaders want to close the Strait of Hormuz, but insisted that the United States would not allow the move to be used as a tool of pressure or threats against it.

He said the United States would continue to stand firm in its position and promised to provide more information about Iran later. However, he did not answer direct questions from reporters about the conflict before ending the session.
