Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi was attacked by a group of youths yesterday at a restaurant in Kisumu before being rescued and treated at a local hospital.

Mr. Osotsi’s Communications Director, Derick Luvega, said his boss was attacked by a group of armed youths.

The senator had visited the Westend wholesale store to shop and then went to a Java restaurant to meet a friend, where he spoke publicly for about 30 minutes.

It was during this time that the armed youths approached him, questioning his political stance before starting to assault him.

The youths reportedly wanted to know why he had been opposing the re-election of President William Ruto, despite ODM having decided to support the president in 2027.

“They restrained their guards from using their guns; had they done so, members of the public could have been hurt,” said Mr. Luvega.

He called on the National Police Service (NPS) to investigate the incident thoroughly and take action against those responsible.

“There is CCTV footage at Java that will help identify those involved. The law must be enforced, and the perpetrators must face strict action,” added Mr. Luvega.

Two weeks ago, Mr. Osotsi was removed as ODM deputy leader, and his politics now align with the Linda Mwananchi faction led by ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
