Kenyan comedian Davis Mwabili, popularly known as Inspector Mwala, has filed a lawsuit against actress Jacky Vike, famously known as Awinja Nyamwalo, and beverage giant Coca-Cola over a Sh163 million marketing campaign branded Kachingching na Coke.
The comedian claims the campaign unlawfully used his famous catchphrase, “Jishikie Kamwala,” without his consent.
According to court filings, Mwala argues that the phrase is closely associated with his public image and long-running entertainment brand, making it commercially valuable intellectual property.
He alleges that the use of the slogan in the campaign exploited his name, reputation, and creative identity for profit without compensation or authorization.
The lawsuit names both Awinja, who featured prominently in the campaign, and Coca-Cola as respondents.
Mwala is seeking damages, compensation for unauthorized commercial use of his brand, and any other relief the court may deem appropriate.
The case is expected to spark debate over celebrity image rights, trademarks, and the commercial use of popular catchphrases in Kenya’s entertainment and advertising industries.
